Building Opportunities in Cambridge for Women into Construction

We are delighted to announce that Women into Construction will now be working in Cambridgeshire thanks to our newest partners Hill with additional support from the CITB Pathways into Construction fund.

Hill is an award-winning housebuilder and one of the leading developers in London and the south east of England, delivering both private for sale and affordable homes. Family owned and operated, it has grown to establish itself as the UK’s third largest privately-owned housebuilder, building in excess of 2,000 homes a year, including more than 1,000 homes for clients and partners in the affordable housing sector, and boasts a pipeline of more than 3,300 homes.

Building opportunities in Cambridge for WiC

The new partnership sees WiC’s Shelley Lawrence based in Hill’s Cambridge office, working to set-up, launch and run the WiC programme in the area to broker training, work placements and job opportunities for women. Hill have kick-started the programme by offering 10 work placements and 5 job opportunities over the first 18 months of delivery.

About the programme and partnership with Hill, Shelley Lawrence said “Diversity and inclusion is high on many agendas, but not all know where to begin to fulfil their CSR goals. Hill is leading the way in actively diversifying their workforce by working with WiC, whilst also providing support for others in the industry to recruit women. I’m extremely proud to be representing both WiC and Hill in Cambridge to empower and support women into the industry, to balance the workforce and to address the ever-growing skills gap facing the industry today.”

Sarah Beale, CITB Chief Executive, said: “Women Into Construction together with our Pathways Into Construction programmes represent great opportunities to help address the skills gap by reaching a more diverse range of people. These initiatives will show how construction can become more inclusive, stop fishing in only half the pond for its workforce and support the industry to generate the homegrown talent we need.”
