Celebrations at 21 Moorfields

On Thursday 7th July we had a fantastic wrap up of our latest WiC Employment programme, sponsored by Landsec and in collaboration with Sir Robert McAlpine and Gratte Brothers, at Sir Robert McAlpine’s offices next to the 21 Moorfields development in London.

10 women completed a programme of two weeks training at  where they gained employability skills and their Level 1 Health & Safety and CSCS cards. This was followed by two week’s work experience on site with Gratte Brothers in a variety of disciplines at 21 Moorfields, including mechanical and electrical installation, project management and document control, under the watchful eye of the amazing Clair Townsend and her team Mark Gerrard, Aleks Tsvetkova, Ian Fair and Keith Miller.

The women were full of praise for the Gratte Brothers team and the experience they’d had on site. Most wanted to stay on longer they’d had such a great time and were really proud to have worked on such a prestigious building; the electrical switch room will always hold a special place in their hearts! They were also full of praise for our fantastic Project Manager Aretha Kelly who has supported them throughout the whole programme.

Tom Delves, HR Manager at Gratte Brothers said; “This has been a brilliant experience, we’ve met some amazing women who we wouldn’t ordinarily have encountered through our normal recruitment procedures – we were delighted to host them and hope to welcome some of them into our business!”

Laura Regan, Social Value Manager at Sir Robert McAlpine commented; “This has been a well organised programme from WiC. It’s been great getting to know all the women and see what an incredible mix of talent and experience they can bring to construction.”

Ben Anderson, Social Sustainability Manager at Landsec added “For me this programme has confirmed the huge potential that new and diverse talent can bring to our developments across London and how working in partnership with our supply chain can make it happen”.

Our thanks go to the whole team at Landsec, SRM and Gratte Brothers who have been involved in the project including Richard Harris, Ang Foster, and Wayne Scott as well as the team at CONEL (Shiv Emmimath, Patience Itua, Isin Mehmet and Edward AfrifahAdae).  We look forward to working with them all again soon!
