Celebrating Women into Construction

On Wednesday 15th June 2022, we celebrated Changing the Face of Construction with 200 of our supporters and female participants at Carpenter’s Hall, London.

This uplifting annual Celebration Event started with Women into Construction’s Managing Director, Kath Moore MBE, addressing the audience with heartfelt thanks and appreciation.

Women into Construction’s Director of Business Development, Jacqui Wordsworth, then took to the stage to reflect on the inspiring work delivered in the past three years, including WiC’s successful resilience and adaption to delivery during covid. A roaring round of applause filled the room when Jacqui announced that Women into Construction have now supported over 1,000 women into jobs, and credit was given to both the determination of the women WiC works with and the unwavering championing of the contractors and partners who continue to support.

Impactful industry insight followed with speakers Sandi Rhys Jones OBE from CIOB, Andy Mitchell CBE from Tideway and Kimberley McGinty from VGC taking to the lectern to discuss the need for gender equality and their partnerships with Women into Construction.

A striking moment of the event followed, when the names and job titles of the female participants in the room were read out, with each standing on hearing their name – the room was soon full of the future of construction on their feet for all to see.

An audience highlight followed, as Women into Construction programme participants Amber Burnell, Labourer for RSK Group and Jasmine Anthony, Electrical Improver via Henry Construction, spoke honestly and passionately about their journeys into construction and the impact of the support received by WiC.

WiC participants and supporting organisations were then recognised for their outstanding contributions during the much anticipated awards ceremony. A full list of those recognised can be found below.

The main session concluded with thanks and a call to action from Kath Moore MBE and Jacqui Wordsworth – stating that more needs to be done if we are going to Change the Face of Construction, together.

The evening came to an end with guests enjoying drinks and canapés whilst networking. The room was full of positive energy and uplifting conversation as photos of the work delivered over the past three years played in the background.

Special thanks to Galldris Group, St Modwen Homes and VGC for sponsoring the event.
