WiC head North!

WiC’s Business Development Director, Jacqui Wordsworth, headed to Newcastle on Tuesday 12th July for a fantastic employer event, hosted by WiC Members Morgan Sindall Infrastructure in collaboration with Gateshead College Build NE project. Thanks to the impressive event organisation by Linda Blakelock, Steve Logan and the team from the college, over 30 construction employers and local partners, including the Department for Work and Pensions met to hear about our plans to Change the Face of Construction in the North East.

The delegates heard from CITB’s Lynne Allison about the huge growth opportunities in the construction and infrastructure sector in the North East. Gateshead College discussed how their Build North East project (funded by the European Social Fund and North of Tyne Combined Authority) will support new entrants to the construction sector and Jacqui spoke about WiC’s plans to develop a new employment programme in the North East.

Delegates also heard first-hand from some inspirational women who are starting their careers in the sector – Ellen McCann – a PlanBEE graduate, now employed with Ryder Architecture and Marion Boswell, Graduate Engineer, Alice Simpson and Jenny Elder (Undergraduate placement students) who are currently working with Morgan Sindall Infrastructure on their Northumberland Line upgrade programme.

Thanks go to Clare Crooks, Derrin Atkins, Stirling Hood, Paige Ibinson, Merika Hagley from Gateshead College and Joanne Sutton and Jane Payne from Morgan Sindall who also supported the organisation and delivery of this brilliant event!

Working with Chris Dransfield and the teams at Morgan Sindall and Gateshead College, WiC are looking for more employers to join our programme planned for Autumn 2022. For more information, contact Jacqui Wordsworth at jacqui.wordsworth@women-into-construction.org
