Students and staff of the Women into Construction ‘Construction Club’ at Barking & Dagenham College (BDC) greeted Devia Barker from Ardmore Group with open arms. Ardmore is hoping to offer work placements and mentoring to these students on trades and construction management BTEC courses. New BDC students under 30 years of age and construction employers with opportunities in East London are welcome to join this Berkeley Foundation funded programme.
Holly, who studies construction and design at BDC and is one of the first members of the Construction Club said: “It was really interesting to talk to the employer at the meeting. I’m looking forward to starting my work placement and gaining experience in the construction industry next year.”
Anna Walterskotter, Project Manager for WiC added: “The construction industry has a wealth of opportunities for everyone. With the help of Barking & Dagenham College and this new initiative, we hope to see many new young women obtain jobs and start their career.”
